SANDSTONE RHYTHM (English)

Our life is a unique and unrepeatable gift. It often takes years or decades to recognize the wonder and an opportunity in it. Why is this important? Because for us passengers on the train of our destiny, once our ticket expires, there is no more next stop!
Those of us who, as we approach the end of a life of work, find ourselves looking back and seeing only the monotonous grey shadows of everyday life may realize how true the above statement is!
As everything in our perceived world around us strives to achieve some state of equilibrium, deep down we all seek this peace, this joy of beauty. I am fortunate because I have found a path that leads far away, but where I feel happy. There I am filled with the thought that our world is beautiful, worth living and working in! It gives me the strength to survive the next Black-Ink-days in the calendar and the ones after that.
This book is a story of my journey to the soul-warming beauty of the land of canyons.
The Grand Circle will bring back memories for anyone who has ever seen a Western movie – be it a costume film or an animated cartoon. We have seen a world then thought unattainable, called a promised land. This curiosity and desire, which had been ingrained in us for decades, helped me to travel to the southwestern states of the USA, to the parks that are home to the most beautiful natural wonders.
The book projects the arc of this life-travel onto a broadly interpreted map of the Grand Circle, whose main roads and dusty hiking trails I have explored, sometimes alone, but mostly with my family or friends. The book consists of two dozen separate stories interconnecting at the meeting points of this double arc. In this way, for example we can discover the Grand Canyon’s most beloved hiking trails and glimpse moments of lifelong friendships when the painful but common event of passing is near.  It’s the same feeling you get on Zion’s Engel’s Landig canyon overlook, or seeing Canyon De Chelly’s rocky needle rising from the deep as an exclamation mark. In the remote hamlet of the Rocky Mountains, the last motel’s porter in the shade of the four thousandaires helped to understand us what the homeless old woman on the main street of Las Vegas teaches us when she offered her hand for a handout ; you never know where your fate will trial you will succeed in remaining human in a challenging situation…

In addition to the presentation of the trails and canyons, the plan of the day’s hike, the choice of accommodation and even the scheduling of meals, it is not inevitable to talk about the people who live here or who visit. Without them, the stories would not have been possible. Goodness, perseverance, heroism and example are the virtues that shape the memories that are everywhere in this essentially barren landscape – just as the Colorado River and its tributaries have shaped the Colorado Plateau, one of the richest and most colorful places in the world, for millions of years.

The  company of brave people, the first settlers, then the workers who erected dams on the rivers, the road workers and hundreds of thousands and millions of others, have turned a barren landscape into a wonderland.
Wonders do exist!

The Grand Circle is just the first step, there will be more to come, telling you about Yellowstone with the Tetons, and then about the diverse, exciting and unforgettable world of California for those who have ‘passed up’ the opportunity to travel, but especially for those who are prepared to get their boots dirty with the reddish powder covering one of the Southwest’s iconic hiking trails for the experience of a lifetime.

Life is a great journey

As time goes on, we look back and see confirmation of the good decisions we made, and a clearer view of the moments we failed to manage. Just as the arrival at the destination is not the sole point of the traveller’s journey, so the combination of events that are dear to us and more worthy of forgetting should help us to reach a fleeting state of a sense of wholeness. Sometimes it takes only a moment of magic that can be caused by a station reached, or a desire fulfilled.

Many of yours have been there when the goal was conceived, the plan began to become a tangible reality, the number of steps became manageable, and the obstacles disappeared. Or rather, they seemed to disappear.

One’s beautiful morning at the top of the imaginary staircase, Laci the courier was waiting for me, because he had brought the printed prototype of my book.

Years ago, every important decision had to be meticulously considered, compared, compared and evaluated several times. Using a service caused a lot of headaches because of the burden it entailed.

Today, if I need a proofreader, I know who to look for. Looking for a partner for professional pre-press work? No question about who I turn to!

I don’t even ask for an alternative offer, there’s no haggling, because I know that I can’t find a better one in terms of quality, deadlines or even expert cooperation.

So Laci the courier has brought me another milestone in my life.

This is the book, entitled SANDSTONE RHYTHM.

The format of the VADNYUGAT A4 was changed to B5/A5, just to fit better in the bag and be more comfortable to read. Don’t worry, I made sure that the font size didn’t change significantly, because I know that over 40, it makes a difference how legible the letters are! I’ve tried to carry on the virtues of the Hungarian version, so all pages are made using first-quality, glossy paper. A real masterpiece. For me, anyway!

You will love this book, if ….

The book will be a real experience for those who love the special atmosphere of North America, who enjoy living here, or even just travelling here, and who want to be part of the daily life of this unique country, even if they are only guests on this continent.
The author is one of those who dress their souls in celebration when the day comes to go again, to embark on an unforgettable journey to the land of canyons. This recurring feeling is truly understood by those who have a love of nature, who embrace the message of the national parks and understand the connection of this landscape to our past, both near and far. On the way out, the geological exhibit hall of the Grand Circle recalls the history of the United States. From the romantic images of the wide canvas Wild West to the imprint of events that affect us all in our present time, the memories of the first settlers are revealed.
The author is convinced that everything is connected and that the simple everyday can bring something new, beautiful and interesting into each of our lives if we are open to it. The land of the canyons teaches us the most important thing: it is good to live in spite of all difficulties and hardships, because our world is full of beauty, and the landscape helps us to remember this even on difficult days: even on the hottest desert roadsides, a flower can bloom.
